The concept for UNIT BASE ONE was formed in late November 2024 during discussions with Meyrick Estates, which owns a group of four hotels on Bournemouth’s East Cliff. A vision was established in May 2025 to repurpose these hotels for the creative industries, naming the area ‘The East Side’. As part of this plan, the Ocean View Hotel is being converted into a creative film and TV hub, with Unit Base One leasing floors to provide offices for freelancers and small to medium-sized businesses in the sector.
The venture was founded by Adam J Merrifield, who has over a decade of experience in film production and is an active member of the local film community. He is supported by two non-Executive Directors: Tim Clague, a BAFTA-nominated screenwriter and director, and Danny Stack, an experienced writer and director in film and TV.

The mission of UNIT BASE ONE is to address the challenges faced by freelancers and small businesses in the film industry by providing affordable office space, networking opportunities, and flexible, short-term desk space for project-based work.
